Genetic Education
This is a one year certificate program in Genetic counseling that will help train students to work hand in hand with physicians and other health care providers to offer genetic counseling to patients and their families.

To educate and train genetic counselors who will be prepared to:

  • Identify patients affected with or at risk for a hereditary syndrome
  • Provide counseling and education to patient with or at risk for a hereditary condition
  • Facilitate testing and management of individuals with genetic conditions
  • Communicate effectively with physicians of various specialties to help them navigate the field of genetics and to serve as genetics experts in clinic or on a consult basis as required by the physician

The National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) defines genetic counseling as "the process of helping people understand and adapt to the medical, psychological and familial implications of genetic contributions to disease."

Currently, there are about 50 medical geneticists and about 15 genetic counselors in India working across 50 centers in the country. The current practice of genetic counseling in India is restricted.

Together we can expand the workforce of highly skilled and educated genetics providers so more patients have access to these services, which will increase understanding of their genetic condition as well as help them understand their risks and management options.

Students will be educated by faculty trained and currently practicing clinical genetics and genetic counseling in the U.S. Individuals who complete the program will be strong applicants for positions within PanGenomics as well as other health care settings.
